Earth Day Clean Up 4/16/2011

We had a great turnout today. Once again we made our mark and left no doubt that the Rhody Rovers where in attendance today. I will get a total number of members present from Pete, hopefully before Tuesdays meeting.

2011 Penguin Rally

2011 Penguin Rally

Our 2011 Penguin Rally, held February 20, was a huge success again.  Prior to the event we were faced with some hurdles,  mostly related to the weather and snow depth.  Having been denied the ability to snowmobile and pack the 30 mile approved loop,  we took advantage of the warm temperatures on Thursday and Friday.  As of the Thursday prior, we had a heavy and wet snow pack with depths of up to 16" in the woods and woods roads.  Our plan to scale back the loop distance and break trail with a single track rut was our only option, and it worked!  Thanks to Rich, Jake, Neil, Shawn, Peter and Paul for riding on Thursday and Friday under very difficult conditions.  These guys not only created the ride loop by forcefully pushing through the snow; but they also cleared all of the blow downs and face slappers that were created by all of the heavy snow.  My hats off to those guys;  thanks alot!

Thrill & Chill Weekend Recap

The Thrill & Chill Weekend has passed and was another success.  A detail write up will follow, but for now here are a few videos from jcalis.

BRMA Trail Clean-up

Part of our agreement w/ WRB and BRMA is that we have to do some trail maint. after our T&C Scholarship ride. Please carefully consider the importance of this work party. Our relationship and future permits rest soley on our cleaning up the trails we used.

If you were not able to attend any of the work parties leading up to this fantasic event, try to alter your Sunday schedule to attend this work party. Working this event will still allow you to claim a club work credit for this event. Remember, all club members are required to attend at least three work parties through out the year to get your minimum club requirments forfilled.

Additionally, lets remember WRB has now approved 3 events per year for us. These events include the Penguin Rally, our enduro and our T&C Scholarship ride. Without these permits our club and our sanctioned events will fail to exist.

Please refer to the clubs email blast for specifics; however here it is in a nutshell:

This Sunday July 25th, 9:00-11:00, Exeter W/G Fire Dept, Quads, Rakes, Shovels, Bug Spray, Water and 1-2 Bikes to inspect area.

Earth Day Clean Up 2010

The Rhody Rovers would like to thank both RINEMBA and RI Water Resources Board for the invitation to be actively involved in the Earth Day Big River Cleanup. The Rhody Rovers were able to bring together over 30 volunteers towards this project.  Below is an excerpt provided by RI New England Mountain Bike Assoc. with the fact of this very successful project.

Another Big River Cleanup, 100 volunteers, 3-4 hours, 5 dumpsters ….. Wow. Anthony took the lead this year with Al & I assisting in getting everyone out to projects as quick as possible.

Thanks to all
RI Water Resources Board
West Greenwich Conservation Commission
This year the Rhody Rovers put the pedal to the metal bringing a bobcat. Rich did a fantastic job taking down a number of rotted unsafe structures and getting everything in two dumpsters.
